President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has reappointed University of the Philippines (UP) alumnus and renowned obstetrician-gynecologist Dr. Gregorio Pastorfide to the UP Board of Regents (BOR).
Malacañang announced on Tuesday, March 12 the names of Marcos’ latest appointees, including Pastorfide. This round of appointments covers various government agencies such as the Office of the President, the Departments of Agrarian Reform, Agriculture, Finance, Information and Communications Technology, Trade and Industry, and Transportation, Commission on the Filipino Language, National Youth Commission, and the Philippine Postal Corporation.
Pastorfide’s renewed tenure as a Regent will expire on March 7, 2026. He initially joined the BOR in March 2022, appointed by then-President Rodrigo Duterte to succeed Dr. Maria Arlissa Aguiluz.
Pastorfide’s fresh two-year term will expire on March 7, 2026. He was first appointed as University Regent in March 2022 by former President Rodrigo Duterte, replacing former Regent Dr. Maria Arlissa Aguiluz.
A 1967 graduate of the UP College of Medicine (UPCM), Pastorfide’s career began with an internship at the Greater Baltimore Medical Center in Maryland, USA. He honed his skills further at Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston, Massachusetts, and served as a teaching and research fellow at Harvard Medical School upon completing his training at Tufts in 1972.
Returning to the Philippines, Pastorfide’s academic journey at UPCM saw him ascend from instructor to full professor. He led the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology as Chair from 1998 to 2001. In total, the newly-reappointed Regent served the University over a span of 33 years, from 1974 to 2007.
Pastorfide is Marcos’ second appointee in the 11-member BOR, following lawyer and former UP Alumni Regent Gladys Tiongco.
The BOR is the University’s highest decision-making body.
