The COVID-19 cases of the University of the Philippines (UP) Diliman reached a cumulative total of 139 on Thursday, August 6, with 55 active cases, 77 recoveries, and seven deaths.

“Reflecting what is happening at the national level, UP Diliman has also seen an increase in COVID-19 cases,” Chancellor Fidel Nemenzo explained in a statement dated Thursday. Nemenzo assured stakeholders that cases are being closely monitored.

The numbers include COVID-positive constituents of UP Diliman, covering both residents and non-residents of the Diliman campus.

In response to the current situation on campus and the country, UP Diliman also announced that it will evaluate and improve its pandemic response. “The UPD COVID-19 Task Force will use this two-week modified enhanced community quarantine to review, recalibrate and intensify our strategic response to the pandemic,” Nemenzo said.

Opening an isolation facility on campus and implementing targeted testing of employees and enhanced contact tracing are said to form part of this recalibration.
