Nagpasalamat ang Department of Education (DepEd) sa Kongreso matapos makakuha ng pinakamataas na dagdag sa budget sa 2022 General Appropriation Act (GAA).
Ayon sa abiso ng Malacañang, ang sektor ng edukasyon partikular ang DepEd, Commission on Higher Education (CHED) at mga state university and colleges (SUCs) ang siyang makakatanggap ng alokasyon na aabot sa 788.5 billion pesos.
36.8 billion pesos ito na mataas na katumbas naman ng 4.9 percent kumpara sa budget nitong 2021.
“I would like to express my gratitude to President Duterte and Congress for the never-ending support to raise the quality of education in the country. The increase in budget will certainly help our reforms and initiative to transform education amidst pandemic,” sabi ni Education Secretary Leonor Briones.
Ayon sa GAA, 631.77 billion pesos ang opisyal na inilaan sa DepEd sa bicameral level, mas mataas ng 6.34 percent mula sa 2021 GAA na may halagang 594.11 billion pesos.
Sabi naman ng DepEd na kanilang ilalaan ang 591.18 billion pesos sa DepEd Office of Secretary habang ang nalalabing pondo ay ipapamahagi sa anim na attached agencies ng Kagawaran katulad ng Early Childhood Care and Development Council (ECCD Council), National Book Development Board (NBDB), National Council for Children’s Television (NCCT), National Museum, Philippine High School for Arts (PHSA) at ang National Academy of Sports.
