University of the Philippines (UP) alumna Senator Loren Legarda visited the UP College of Mass Communication (CMC) on Tuesday, June 18.

Legarda’s visit coincided with CMC’s 59th founding anniversary and UP’s 116th foundation day.

Welcoming her were UP CMC Dean Fernando Paragas, along with faculty, students, and staff of the College.

During the visit, Paragas discussed the College’s projects and plans, highlighting its current status in terms of stakeholders and program offerings. He also presented design plans for the renovation of the Media Center Building and the construction of a Media Archives Building.

“The good senator, who helped initiate our Media Center during her first term over 20 years ago, is now generously supporting our proposed Media Archives Building in her fourth term in office,” Paragas said.

Legarda expressed her gratitude to the College and assured her office’s support. “This is my way of giving back to my alma mater,” she said.

Joining the meeting were UP Diliman Vice Chancellor for Planning and Development Raquel Florendo and UP Diliman Office of the Campus Architect Director Ringer Manalang.

Legarda graduated from UP with a BA Broadcast Communication degree, cum laude, in 1981. In 2018, the University conferred an honorary Doctor of Laws degree on her at UP Diliman’s 107th General Commencement Exercises.
