UP constituents will be launching various efforts to combat rampant disinformation about the dark history of Martial Law on the 49th anniversary of its proclamation starting today, Sept. 20.
From Sept. 20 to 24 at 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., the University will be hosting “Dambana ng Gunita: Mga Batayang Katotohanan at Aral ng Batas Militar,” a webinar series where experts and academics debunk myths and confront truths about the Marcos regime.
Each webinar will tackle propagandas that have emerged in the years following the martial rule with topics like Hindi Bayani si Marcos (Sept. 20), Hindi Mapayapa sa Panahon ng Batas Militar (Sept. 21), Nilabag ang mga Karapatang Pantao (Sept. 22), Walang Golden Age sa Ekonomiya (Sept. 23) and Nagnakaw sa Kaban ng Bayan (Sept. 24).
The series is part of SIGWA 2021, a week-long event of the UP Department of History for the UP Day of Remembrance which will also feature programs done in partnership with DZUP.
“Talastasan sa Kasaysayan,” which was first aired earlier this year for the 35th anniversary of the EDSA Revolution, will be replayed in two parts on Sept. 20 and 21 at 1:00-2:00 p.m.
Martial Law episodes from “BroadKas sa DZUP” will also be reaired on Sept. 22 at 1:00 p.m. The episodes will provide vital discussions on authoritarianism, infrastructure and the significance of activism.
The event will close off with another webinar series entitled “Essential Truths on the Martial Law Years” to be led by the Human Rights Violations Victims’ Memorial Commission from Sept. 21 to 24 at 3:00-5:00 p.m. DZUP
