The University of the Philippines (UP) Diliman campus will serve as a local testing center for the 2024 Bar Examinations, as announced by the Office of the Chancellor in Memorandum No. ECLV-24-019, issued on Friday, August 30.
The Supreme Court (SC) will administer the Bar exams at UP Diliman on several dates throughout September.
The designated testing venues include the College of Arts and Letters (CAL), College of Social Sciences and Philosophy (Palma Hall and its Pavilions), College of Law (Malcolm Hall), and the School of Economics (Encarnacion Hall). The Bar examinations are scheduled for September 8, 11, and 15, with preparation days on September 6, 7, 10, and 14.
To secure the examination venues and manage the flow of bar examinees, certain areas within or adjacent to these testing sites will be off-limits to all individuals except those involved in the Bar exams.
Affected areas include key academic and administrative buildings on campus. They are the following:
- College of Engineering (Melchor Hall)
- University Computer Center
- Diliman Interactive Learning Center Building
- National Engineering Center
- Industrial Engineering/Mechanical Engineering Building
- UP Resilience Institute (Old Statistics Building)
- Other Offices in the Old Statistics Building
- UP Law Center (Bocobo Hall)
- Asian Center (GT-Toyota Asian Cultural Center)
- Construction site of the Institute of Islamic Studies
- Virata School of Business
- Vinzons Hall
- Student Union Building
- Lorena Barros Hall
- College of Education (Benitez Hall)
- UP Integrated School
- Palma Hall Annex (Lagmay Hall)
- Benton Hall
- Natural Sciences Research Institute
Faculty, students, and staff requiring access to these non-testing venues during the Bar exam days must submit a written request to the Chancellor by 12:00 noon on Wednesday, September 4.
Access will only be granted with a permit issued by the SC, and those permitted entry must display their UP identification cards and adhere to security protocols, the Chancellor said.
The high tribunal will implement traffic rerouting and access controls during the examination days, leading to the closure of certain road segments within the campus.
Additionally, areas such as Quezon Hall, CAL New Building, and Vargas Museum, will be accessible only to authorized personnel and those with SC permits.
In response to these restrictions, academic units covered by the memorandum are directed to adopt remote learning modalities, while affected offices are encouraged to implement work-from-home arrangements.
Units and offices not directly affected by the restrictions are also authorized to implement remote learning and work-from-home arrangements, particularly on September 11, due to anticipated congestion.
