The University of the Philippines (UP) Diliman National Service Training Program (NSTP) Office held an orientation for NSTP students of the constituent university, September 25.
Attendees came from different academic units, including the College of Architecture, College of Arts and Letters, College of Education, College of Engineering, College of Fine Arts, College of Human Kinetics, College of Mass Communication, College of Music, College of Science, College of Social Sciences and Philosophy, College of Social Work and Community Development, School of Economics, and School of Library and Information Studies.
During this gathering, UP Department of History Chair Professor Neil Martial Santillan provided insights into UP’s role as a public service university.
He highlighted the University’s foundational commitment to community service. “Táyo bílang iskolar ng bayan kapag nagtapos ka sa UP, napapaisip ka, nagninilay ka na dapat iyong serbisyo mo ibinabalik mo sa bayan,” he said.
(As scholars of the nation graduating from UP, one often reflects on the importance of giving back to the community.)
Addressing national security concerns, UP Diliman NSTP Office Director Assistant Professor Dennis Quilala also shared his expertise with the attendees.
