The University of the Philippines (UP) Diliman announced on Saturday evening, July 27 that its 113th General Commencement Exercises will proceed as scheduled on Sunday, July 28.

The assembly is set for 6 am at the University Amphitheater, with the official program starting at 7 am. The event will be available for live viewing on UP Diliman’s website and YouTube channel.

This announcement from the UP Diliman Office of the Chancellor comes in the wake of significant weather disruptions earlier in the week.

On July 24, heavy rainfall and widespread flooding caused by the Southwest Monsoon, which was intensified by Typhoon Carina, affected many parts of Luzon, including Metro Manila. In response to the severe weather conditions, the Metro Manila Council adopted a resolution declaring a state of calamity for the entire National Capital Region on July 25.

For context, last year’s outdoor graduation ceremony was cut short due to early morning heavy rains.

More than 4,700 students will graduate during this year’s University Graduation. According to data from the UP Diliman Office of the University Registrar as of July 26, 286 students will graduate as summa cum laude, 1,109 as magna cum laude, and 788 as cum laude.

Former Philippine Senator and UP alumnus Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan is this year’s commencement speaker. Summa cum laude graduate Catherine Adille from the BA Psychology program will represent the Class of 2024.
