Tropical Cyclone Ulysses has intensified into a typhoon Wednesday morning, November 11 while moving towards the provinces of Quezon and Aurora, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) announced.

“Destructive winds and intense with at times torrential rainfall associated with the region of the eyewall and inner rainbands of the typhoon will be experienced over the northern portions of Catanduanes, Camarines Sur, and Camarines Norte until tonight and over Aurora and northern portion of Quezon tonight through tomorrow early morning,” Pagasa warned the public.

Typhoon Ulysses is expected to make its first landfall over Polillo Islands and mainland Quezon within 24 hours.

“Afterwards, Ulysses will cross Central Luzon and emerge over the western seaboard of Zambales between tomorrow morning and afternoon,” the state weather bureau reported.

Pagasa said Typhoon Ulysses is packing winds of 125 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center with gustiness of up to 155 kph. The typhoon was located at 100 km north of Virac, Catanduanes at 10:00 am Wednesday, moving west northwestward at 20 kph.

As of 11:00 am Wednesday, several areas in Luzon have been placed under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 3, including Metro Manila and storm-ravaged Catanduanes, due to Typhoon Ulysses.
