The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) has authorized UP Los Baños to reopen its campus to conduct limited face-to-face classes.

In the Certificate of Authority issued by CHED Regional Office IV (CHEDRO IV), last December 17, 2021, ninety-eight (98) students—identified by UP Los Baños and submitted to CHEDRO IV— were authorized to attend the face-to-face classes.

It stated that the identified students have complied with the requirements of the CHED and the Department of Health (DOH) under Joint Memorandum Circular No.2021-001.

According to a report on the university’s website, retrofitting its laboratories and facilities and implementing policies that conform to minimum public health standards were part of the preparation for the limited opening of face-to-face classes, which CHED inspected on December 3, 2021.

The approval for UP Los Baños to confuse limited face-to-face classes follows that of UP Diliman. The latter was also recently issued certificates of authority to conduct limited face-to-face classes, internships, and clerkship from CHED.

UP Diliman Chancellor Fidel Nemenzo, together with Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Ma. Theresa Payongayong, officially received certificates of authority for 18 courses in the College of Science, College of Home Economics, College of Social Work and Community Development, and College of Music from CHED NCR Director Virginia Akiate, December 21.

The turnover took place at Quezon Hall with CHED Supervisor Victor Emil Castello and Professor John Robert Medina of the UP Manila College of Public Health.

According to upd.edu.ph, three hundred thirty-eight (338) graduating students (as of 2nd semester and mid-year, AY 2020-2021) have permission to attend the limited face-to-face classes in January next year. DZUP
