Nanawagan ang grupong PARTICIPATE kay Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte na bigyan ang publiko ng pagkakataon na makilahok sa pagkuha ng posibleng appointees sa Commission on Election (COMELEC).
Ayon sa inilabas na unity statement ng grupo, ipinapanawagan nila ang bukas at transparent na appointment ng Chairperson at Commissioners ng nasabing ahensya para masiguro na ang mga susunod na opisyal ay committed sa pagpapanatili ng political independence.
“We, the academe, civil society organization, youth groups and sectoral leaders, call on President Rodrigo Duterte to make the appointment of COMELEC Chairpersons and Commissioners open and transparent to ensure that the next officials are committed to maintaining the political independence of the electoral body and ensuring the integrity of our elections.”
Sinabi pa ng grupo na wala ng tatlong buwan bago ang May 2022 elections ay magreretiro na si COMELEC Chairperson Sheriff Abas at Commissioners Rowena at Antonio Kho, Jr. kaya’t ang mababakanteng mga posisyon ay crucial lalo na sa paghahanda sa halalan.
Bukod dito, ipinanawagan din nila sa Pangulo na magsimula na ang pag-anticipate sa vacancies sa COMELEC at gumawa ng search and selection committee na mayroong mga kinatawan mula sa iba’t-ibang sektor ng lipunan.
Pinagbibigay din ito ng malinaw na set ng criteria para magamit sa pag-appoint ng mga nasabing bakanteng posisyon.
