The University of the Philippines ranked highest among 15 Philippine higher education institutions (HEIs) included in the latest QS World University Rankings in Asia.

Dropping to 77th place from last year’s 69th, UP is still the country’s lone university to make it to the top 100.

The QS Asia University Rankings are an annual publication of university rankings around the world. Universities are assessed according to academic and employer reputation, faculty to student ratio, international research network, citations per paper, papers per faculty, faculty/staff with a Ph.D., the proportion of international faculty, and proportion of international students.

According to its website, the QS World University Rankings developed the criteria to “reflect key priorities for universities in Asia, drawing on as much available data as possible.” 

In this year’s ranking, the University of the Philippines garnered an overall score of 50 with 63.3 in Academic Reputation (30%), 72.1 in Employer Reputation (20%), 64.3 in Faculty/Student Ratio (10%), 71.3 in International Research Network (10%), 5.6 in Citations per Paper (10%), 4.2 in Papers per Faculty (5%), 1 in Faculty/Staff with a Ph.D. (5%), 4.1 in International Faculty (2.5%), and 3.2 in International Students (2.5%).

Also included in the list are the Ateneo de Manila University, De La Salle University, and the University of Santo Tomas, all of which climbed higher than their places in last year’s rankings.

The University of the Philippines also topped the only four Philippine universities included in the global ranking. At 399th place among universities worldwide, UP was also the lone Philippine university with a Bronze rating in Environmental Impact. DZUP
